Rocket League - Kitchener Esports Challenge
The Waterloo Region Esports Commission (WREC) has announced the first Waterloo Region Esports Challenge Charity Tournament. The esports tournament will be presented in partnership with the City of Kitchener, and delivered with the support of Uniting Gamers and Subnation Media. Hosted virtually, all proceeds from the event will support the City of Kitchener’s Every Kid Counts program, which provides support for children and youth with disabilities to attend City of Kitchener and Waterloo summer camps.
The Waterloo Region Esports Challenge is a single day Rocket League tournament in bracket format. The event will take place on , with a kickoff in the morning and four rounds of play occurring throughout the day. Competitors can expect 2-3 matches per/round with each round lasting approximately 1-hour.
The final two championship rounds will be broadcast on a live stream in the late afternoon. There will be approximately $750 in non-cash prizes to be won by participating players including gift cards, tickets, and passes to local events. The breakdown of prizing is as follows:
- 1st Prize - $350 value
- 2nd Prize - $200 value
- 3rd Prize - $100 value
There will be additional prizing given away to participants through random draws throughout the event.
The livestream coverage will follow along with the tournament action in the championship rounds, but will also feature appearances by local gamers and streamers, including players from the collegiate teams in Waterloo Region, and special guests. More details regarding the live stream will be announced at a later date – but we encourage participants to stream their play so we can showcase it on the main event feed!
Registration will cost $10 per entrant, with all of the proceeds going to the City of Kitchener’s “Every Kid Counts” program.
